At the start of this year, I was showing my dad a video of me and my (new friend at that point) best friend singing together. I was so excited that I had found another girl who loved to sing. We eventually went on to sing lots of songs together before she moved away last month.
As I was eagerly telling my dad about how excited I was, he turned to me and said:
“Amy, this is the happiest you will ever be in life”
I sometimes wonder if he’s right, I would be lying if I said this doesn’t stick the back of my head till. I think he meant well with his comment, and he wasn’t trying to bring me down, but he was just slapping some reality into me. In a way, he was right, I can see that even from 9 months later:
- I’m more independent and find my own way outside.
- Granted, more bad experiences with some bad people.
- I work, a lot more than ever in my life.
- I’m still happy
Sure, life is less magical, love is less rose tinted, I have to take life more seriously than I used to, but I’m not any less positive about it all. My perception of the world may start to dampen the older I get, but I remember how naively happy I was at 15, and I don’t miss it. There are certain realities about life that do sting a little, or sometimes, a lot, but I think it would suck to be a delusional person who didn’t know that there are truly some bad people out there.
My takeaway is that happiness is a choice. Yes the world can suck and I have only begun my life on it, but I can’t let myself become another bad person on this earth too.
I was going to add more things, but I think I’ve written enough for one post. I want to add one more that has become increasingly common with age, and still makes me laugh: “Don’t get pregnant”
Have an awesome day <3
