This is saying from my brother when we were younger. My mum is asian, and part of being asian means she loooves getting the best deal. Sale? Promo? Discount? All her favourite words in her vocabulary. She would get quite upset when she’d realise she could’ve gotten something better than she had. And we would say to her, “should’ve would’ve could’ve, but you didn’t.”

I’m visiting back home in NZ in October for 3 weeks. I am so so excited. However … I am having a should’ve would’ve could’ve moment.

My flight back to NZ is booked for October 14th. I’m really hyped for it, Manila in the wet season is very … wet. Lots of lightning. I chose to miss my Grandma’s birthday on the 5th so I can be there for my mum’s birthday on the 26th, but it turns out all the family will be visiting earlier in the month from Australia for my Grandma’s birthday, and they will all fly out before I get there. That was sad, but oh well at least I can spend time with my mum I figured. I texted my old friends and asked when their youth group is visiting Auckland, they said earlier in the month October on the 5th, well I’ll miss them too. I asked my other best friend Jirene (who just moved back to NZ from where I live), same thing, apparently when I come school starts and nobody can come visit.

I don’t usually regret descions, but when my mum asked if I want to visit earlier, maybe I should’ve gone with that. I’m sitting here thinking I should’ve would’ve could’ve gotten an earlier ticket. Suffice to say, regret really dampens the mood even when I should feel lucky enough to even visit home. I wouldn’t of known earlier, I couldn’t of avoided this, it’s just how the cookie crumbles.

So how do you stop feeling the curse of “ahhh I should’ve would’ve could’ve but I didn’t”? Do you ever get regretful over a choice you couldn’t of even foreseen?
